The MWRI Scholarship
The MWRI Scholarship was launched in 2019, with the goal in mind of creating the next generation of chiropractic students the platform to think, innovate and question our current knowledge of an individual's pain experience.
As clinicians, we are sometimes frustrated at the lack of educational organizations preparing students for the "real world". I recall a business professor spending 30-45 minutes explaining to us the importance of the yellow pages ads placement. That was in 2015! Can you imagine the disconnect when we explained what "Google" was? It was depressing to say the least.
Nonetheless, seminars and workshops become a popular avenue for individuals to expand their academy base and the learn from the leaders in their field. That's actually how MWRI became an education entity in the first place!
Conversely, students gathering at seminars are oftentimes shocked, appalled and frustrated at the lack of current clinical knowledge of providers.
So, the million-dollar question is: How do we connect students with the "real world" providers that actually move the profession forwards?
Enter the MWRI Scholarship.
This Scholarship is specifically designs to help provide the financial needs that many DC students lack, due to increase tuition, reduced student loan refund distribution checks, and a multitude of other reasons. Providers, on the other hand, continue to miss out on the "top talent" and are therefore missing a golden opportunity to meet, mentor and hire the next perfect fit for their practice.
While that objective is simple, it's not easy. The MWRI scholarship is easy. The funds earned by scholarship winners can be use to attend a seminar, conference or workshop in order to connect with potential employers, attend expensive certification courses (I know we charge a lot, and if you want the cheapest educational company, please email and I'll pass along the names and numbers of the three cheapest courses in the country).
Most of the time, students will travel to perspective doctor's offices on school breaks or long weekends. This is typically on their own dime! The scholarship is specifically designed to help offset the cost of getting connected with a potential good fit for employment post-chiropractic school.
Most of the current practicing doc's have also shadowed and observed other doctors. It has been through these professional relationships that clinical growth occurs. The winner of the MWRI Scholar will have the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships that can turn into amazing professional networks, memorable experiences - and maybe, just maybe, employment with a practice, group or individual that is the perfect fit.
What do you need to do?
Make a video (5 minutes or less) & answer the following questions:
o Why do you want to become a chiropractor?
o What do you think your school is preparing you well for as you enter the chiropractic industry?
o What are you NOT doing right now in your search for employment? (The emphasis here is that we oftentimes focus on all the efforts we ARE doing, and ignoring or overlooking what we ARE NOT doing to achieve the result or outcome that we desire).
Submit it to admin@mwri.co with the subject line: "MWRI Scholarship".
Winner will receive a cash prize in the amount of $1,500.00. The MWRI Scholarship will be issued via the gigantic size check to your front door upon your name being selected as the winner. Just kidding, this is 2021, we will Venmo you instantly. Besides, banks can't deposit those checks, anyways.
A special thank you is warranted for Sandy Hilton & Sarah Haag of Entropy Physiotherapy. Their EPIC Scholarship is the originator of an idea like this, except for the physical therapy profession. If you are a PT and interested in learning more, visit their website at: http://entropy-physio.com/ to learn more. Thanks, Sandy & Sarah. :)
